Upcoming 2018 Ford Expedition was photographed during some road tests. First Expedition release was back in 1997 and it was based on F-150 model. Since then, these two models drifted apart from each other. For example, In one of the next models, Ford Expedition was equipped with independent rear suspension system, while F-150 still had solid axle and leaf springs. Then again next version got 6-speed automatic transmission and fully boxed frame from F-150.
Ford will offer both regular Expedition and long wheelbase Expedition model. 2018 Expedition will borrow aluminum body, high-strength steel frame and new Eco Boost engines from F-150 truck. Exterior design of upcoming Expedition will also have some details from the Ford F-150. Expect to see similar front grille, LED headlights, doors and side profile. At the back, we could see LED taillights, camouflaged rear window and bumper. Speaking of interior design, there are no specific details about changes inside the cabin. Future 2018 Expedition will be capable of accommodating up to 8 passengers in three rows of seats. Rear seats will be foldable, either manual or by press on a button. This will significantly improve cargo space. High technology equipment will include SYNC3 infotainment systems, automatic emergency brake, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera and blind spot monitoring.

2018 Ford Expedition engine will be taken from new F-150. We are talking about 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine generating 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Engine will be mated to new 10-speed automatic gearbox. Second engine choice could be 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 unit producing 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. Ford will offer both ail-wheel and rear-wheel drive.

2018 Ford Expedition price should be higher than on current model, which sells for around $46,000. Top of the range Expedition could cost up to $70,000. 2018 Expedition will compete on the market with GMC Yukon and Chevy Tahoe. 2018 Ford Expedition release date is expected at the North American Auto Show in 2017.
